HobbyHK

HobbyHK is a youth education organization that aims to be an agent of change in students' lives, challenging the strict profit and target-oriented world which they live in today. They engage students with passionate teaching in order to nurture their reasoning abilities, curiosity, and empathy towards society and the natural environment. Courses offered include astronomy, ecology, life education, art, and artistry, etc.

The issue

Many university students in Hong Kong will take part-time jobs in different tuition centers. Many of these problems arise from the exploitation of college tutors, such as monetary exploitation. Most educational institutions severely lower the wages of college tutors for making profit. HobbyHK as a youth education organization perceived that appropriate rewards and salaries should be given to those youth tutors.

The solution

Hobbyhk believes that appropriate rewards and salaries should be given to the tutors with expertise, such as providing higher salaries than the market price for these young tutors. In addition, they offer a variety of activities, such as life and death education courses, astronomy courses, ecology, environmental protection, art courses and so on. They used: "Hobby as living! "as their slogan to promote the idea of having fun at work. They aim to enable young people to realize themselves, fully explore their potential, finding meaning at work. They hope that one day all tutors can be free to do what they are passionate about and make contributions to society.

Impact

They went deep into the community, recruited aspiring talents, and cooperated with more than 60 non-governmental organizations, charities, colleges, primary and secondary schools, educational institutions, etc. Including Yan Oi Tong, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, HKSKH Lady Maclehose Centre, Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service (BOKSS), People Service Center, etc. Currently, it has served more than 2,000 participants, nearly 100 social workers, teachers and staff.
